Jenise Fernandez joined the Local 10 News team in November 2014.
After spending four years in the Deep South, she is thrilled to be back home reporting for the station she grew up watching.
Jenise also interned at WPLG while she was in college.
Before joining Local 10, Jenise was a reporter and fill-in anchor for WEAR in Pensacola. Jenise spent two years there covering everything from breaking news to feature stories. She was the first reporter to bring live reports during historic flooding in April 2014. She also covered the Escambia County jail explosion, the funeral of Col. Bud Day and F-35 training kicking off at Eglin Air Force Base.
Jenise got her start in the business as a one-man-band reporter/fill-in anchor at KATC in Lafayette, Louisiana. While there, Jenise was nominated for a Suncoast Regional Emmy for her continuing coverage of the disappearance and murder of college student Mickey Shunick.
Jenise was born and raised in Miami. She graduated from Florida International University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in communications and minor in psychology. She is a proud member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She is also a former Miss Miami and placed fourth runner-up at the 2010 Miss Florida Pageant.
Jenise loves to spend time with her big Cuban family. She is also the proud "dog mommy" of Mr. Jay Gatsby, a miniature American Eskimo with a big personality. You can catch her cheering on her favorite teams, the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat, although she will admit to having a "soft spot" for the Saints after living in Louisiana for some time.
In her spare time, she loves to read, try out new restaurants, check out the latest movies, travel and write.
