Miami-Dade jurors start deliberating in ex-charter school employee accused of sex crimes against students

Police officers arrested Yuniesky Ramirez on Monday in Miami-Dade County.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Jurors started deliberating Tuesday afternoon in the Miami-Dade County trial of a man accused of committing sexual crimes against high school students while working at a charter school.

Yuniesky Ramirez-Martinez was tasked with protecting the teenagers as both a part-time security monitor and a volleyball coach at Downtown Doral Charter Upper School, according to police.

Ramirez-Martinez, then 37, encouraged a couple to have sex in a classroom, secretly filmed them, and used the video to sexually harass one of them, according to detectives and prosecutors.

“I saw what you were doing ... and I liked it,” Ramirez-Martinez told one of the students, according to the witness who testified student’s testimony in court.
