Police said the incident happened Wednesday evening at Emma and Olivia streets.

The Key West Police Department report states that Cynthia Diaz Sosa told investigators that she had stopped in traffic on Petronia Street “waiting to let a chicken cross the road” when the other driver began honking at her and passed her.

Diaz Sosa claimed that the other driver ran over the avian, killing it, police said. So the 38-year-old told investigators she wanted to teach the other driver “a lesson” and followed her, they said.

Police said Diaz Sosa began pulling on the woman’s door and eventually got it open amid the struggle, took out the bear spray and sprayed the driver and another woman inside the vehicle, then took off.

After authorities were called, Key West Fire Department medics checked out the two victims at the scene and police said they located Diaz Sosa.

They would eventually arrest her on two counts of aggravated battery and one count of burglary with assault or battery.

As of Tuesday, she was not listed as an active inmate in Monroe County Sheriff’s Office jail records. Those records show she’s scheduled to be arraigned on July 24.
