MIRAMAR, Fla. — A Miramar woman shot her husband after the two got physical early Thursday evening, according to police, who said it wasn’t a case of self-defense.
Chanicia Tijuana Hernandez, 30, is facing charges of attempted murder and criminal attempt to solicit a first-degree felony.
Police said the shooting happened just before 5:15 p.m. at the couple’s home in the 17300 block of Southwest 46th Street.
Investigators said in an arrest report that the two were having a fight over infidelity, “which turned physical.”
Hernandez told investigators that her husband choked her in the bathroom during the fight “while asking where her gun was,” the report states.
Police said he then let her go and walked out of the bathroom and into the bedroom closet. They said Hernandez ran out of the bedroom but returned to eventually get a gun from her purse inside the closet.
Authorities said that as her husband walked out of the home, Hernandez asked him, “You’re going to put your hands on me?”
Police said she shot him after he replied, “Yea b----.”
“Due to the victim leaving the residence and no longer being a threat to (Hernandez) when (she) shot him, (she) was later placed into custody,” police wrote.
The report doesn’t clearly articulate the basis for the criminal attempt to solicit a first-degree felony charge. Local 10 News is contacting the Miramar Police Department seeking additional information.
As of Friday, she was being held without bond in the Broward Main Jail, records show.
