Police: Suspect wanted for step-father’s murder now in custody

PLANTATION, Fla. — Police in Plantation have arrested a man wanted for murder.

Authorities said 28-year-old Haile Richards was wanted for the shooting death of his step-father, 57-year-old Clayous “Paul” Peart, in November of 2024.

The shooting occurred in a home along the 7000 block of West Sunrise Boulevard.

At the time, police said Richards took off in his mother’s vehicle, which he crashed along the 6500 block of West Sunrise Boulevard, before fleeing on foot.

Authorities have not revealed how they were able to apprehend Richards.

He was booked into the Broward County Jail on Wednesday evening.

Police charged him with first degree murder and premeditated murder.
