According to Wilton Manors police, the shooting occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the area of Northeast 26th Street and North Andrews Avenue.

Noon report:

“First, I thought it was fireworks and then I saw my friend and he said, ‘I heard gunshots,’ and I knew it was gunshots when I saw the police,” Diego Trejo, who lives in the neighborhood, said.

According to police, officers responded to the home after receiving a call from a woman regarding a domestic disturbance incident involving her husband.

Police said officers encountered an armed man at the front door of the home when they arrived, leading to the officer-involved shooting.

According to police, the man was shot and officers immediately began rendering aid to him until a Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crew arrived.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials confirmed that first responders transported the man to Broward Health Medical Center as a trauma patient.

Police said he is currently listed in critical condition.

Neighbors told Local 10’s Roy Ramos that a couple lives at the home with their dogs.

“They are a really nice couple,” one neighbor said. “They just finished doing work in our house and (are) really friendly, and I don’t know what’s happened.”

“I feel so nervous right now because I hope nothing has happened to them,” the neighbor added.

Local 10 cameras captured law enforcement going door to door searching for surveillance video and speaking with neighbors.

“I saw the two of them come out of the house and walk around the side of the house,” said neighbor Gregg Kodelman. “They went back in the house, and when I went in to pour my coffee, I heard like 12 to 15 shots.”

Kodelman identified the couple as Larry and Sariya Stroud.

He had bullet holes riddled across his vehicle after the shooting. He told Ramos that he believes Sariya Stroud called the police on her husband as he was acting erratic following a night out.

“They weren’t arguing at all,” Kodelman said. “They both came outside and she said, ‘Go back inside the house, neighbors are awake,’ but she said he had been out drinking.”

Wilton Manors police said they are conducting a criminal investigation into the domestic disturbance with assistance from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

WMPD said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the police shooting.

Police confirmed that no officers were injured in the shooting.

Sariya Stroud released a statement to Local 10 News following the shooting:

“For the time being I would just like for it to be abundantly clear that I never called 911 for a domestic disturbance. I called non emergency because my husband took a walk outside to unwind and I was unable to reach him via phone. After 2 hours I started to worry.

“When he came home safe and sound I called non emergency again to let them know he returned home and all was well. My husband was on the couch when he heard loud knocks on the door from an unknown source at 4AM that did not announce their presence. He was unaware of my calling to the police. He proceeded to see what the threat was outside as I was yelling it’s the police! As he opened the door with our home defense weapon in tow he was struck multiple times by police. My husband is an amazing man and was trying to protect his home from an unknown threat. He never once shot at police. Like some reports I’m seeing. He’s currently awaiting another surgery to try and save his life.”
