According to MDSO, deputies responded to L. Diaz Nursery, in the area of Southwest 204th Avenue and 232nd Street, around 12:45 a.m. to perform a welfare check at a trailer.

Deputies said they spotted an unconscious male inside while looking through a bedroom window.

Authorities confirmed that one victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a second person was transported to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition.

A woman who works in the area told Local 10 News there could have been a chemical error as the chemicals they use to fumigate are extremely toxic.

She said they only apply the chemicals to the plants when people aren’t working.

The agency’s Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation. The official circumstances leading up to the death and injury have not been released.
