HIALEAH, Fla. — A man made a discovery Monday night that urged him to call police after going through a box that he inherited from a friend that recently died.
Hialeah police said they received a call around 8:20 p.m. after a man who reported that he found an object in a tin can that appeared to be a grenade.
Authorities confirmed that the object found was a grenade and requested the assistance of the Miami-Dade Police Department’s bomb squad.
Detectives said after evacuating the building and closing the street, as a precaution, the department’s bomb squad arrived and determined that the grenade was not active and took possession of it for safe destruction.
Authorities then gave an “all-clear” notice and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
